Violinist Anna Basis began her violin studies with her father Victorin Orel, Russia. Several years later, Ms. Basis became a laureate of the "Young Talents of Russia" Festival and was invited to play with the orchestra at the prestigious Rachmaninoff Hall of Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Ms. Basis went on to win a national competition in Ryazan and was awarded a scholarship from The New Names
Foundation. At the age of 15, Ms. Basis was accepted into the Academic College program at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory where she had studied with N. Beshkina for two years before moving to New York City in 1999. Ms. Basis earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the Manhattan School of Music and received a merit scholarship upon her admittance to the studio of P. Kopec. While studying at the MSM, Ms. Basis was a concertmaster of Jazz Philharmonic Orchestra. She also played with the MSM's Symphony and Chamber Sinfonia orchestras under the baton of K. Mazur, Z. Macal, C. Metters, and many other renowned conductors. In 2003, Ms. Basis participated in the Young Artists Programme in Ottawa, Canada. During the program, she had master classes with Pincus Zukerman as well as performed in a quartet at the National Arts Center in Ottawa. Always drawn to teaching, Ms. Basis currently holds faculty positions at the Lucy Moses School and Special Music School in NYC. She has appeared as a soloist, chamber music and orchestra player at Merkin Hall, Steinway Hall, Weill Recital Hall and other NYC venues. Ms. Basis also earned her Master’s Degree in Music Education from Hunter College in 2009.
